Third term for the Governors, (FdI): "The issue is out of the political debate, but in the future we can talk about it again"

"For now I would say that the issue is outside the political debate. But this does not prevent us from talking about it in the future. For now I do not think the conditions are right". With these words Alberto Balboni, president of the Senate Constitutional Affairs Committee and reform expert for Fratelli d'Italia , responds to Affaritaliani.it 's question on whether, after the rejection by the Palazzo Madama Committee led by Balboni, the discussion on the third mandate for regional presidents - strongly supported by the League but always opposed by Forza Italia - is definitively closed or whether there is still room for negotiation.
CALDEROLI'S REGRET - "There were two abstentions from Fratelli d'Italia. I appreciated the willingness to address the issue and find possible solutions. I did not appreciate the wall erected by Forza Italia. It is not a question of politics and government, but I did not appreciate this gesture". This was said by the Minister for Autonomies Roberto Calderoli, of the League, commenting on the rejection of the League's amendment on the third mandate in the Senate's Constitutional Affairs Committee. "I believe that the third mandate is right not only at the level of the Regions and Provinces with special statutes but also of the ordinary ones", he underlined.
TAJANI TURNS DOWN CONTROVERSY WITH THE LEAGUE - Nothing is happening with the League, it's not that the center-right is based on the third mandate. We are a political alliance, unlike the left which is sometimes an electoral alliance. Our coalition is based on political agreements, on justice issues, on the reform of the premiership, on the reform of autonomy, therefore on serious and important issues that concern industrial policy, support for businesses, the reduction of tax pressure". This was said by the Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, on the sidelines of the EPP pre-summit in Brussels. "The third mandate is a rule that may please some, may not please others, but if a coalition is based on the third mandate it would be truly a ridiculous coalition. We always go together, we have been united since '94, therefore it is not the issue of the third mandate. We started out differently, we have different ideas, the centre-right is not a barracks, so you can be in favour of the third mandate, against the third mandate, but it has nothing to do with the cohesion of the centre-right or with the government", he underlines.
